Primary 4, 5, 6 and 7 Children were kindly invited to join archaeologists from Queen’s University Belfast in a community excavation at the site of the 17th-century Derrygonnelly Castle this week. 🏰
As part of the dig, which is run by the Community Archaeology Programme Northern Ireland, Dr. Eileen Murphy shared fascinating facts and insights about life in the 1600s, helping the children imagine what the world was like centuries ago⚔️🐎
The children uncovered fragments of pottery, glass, and other historical artefacts, giving them a hands-on way to connect with their town's rich early history. The whole experience was throughly enjoyed by everyone in Primary 5 and we are so grateful to have been asked to be involved 😀
