P5/6 Wintery Return to School 🥶❄️

9th Jan 2026
We started the New Year 🎉 in the classroom with some very wintery weather outside🥶🌨❄️
We decided to make the most of it and take a walk outdoors🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ to listen carefully to the sounds and take in the sights that the frosty conditions brought with them. From the crisp, icy air🌬 that tingled on our cheeks to the hard, icy ground crunching beneath our feet👣, cold and slightly slippery in places and the glittering frost ❄️that sparkled around us. We all really enjoyed observing the changes that winter brings.

The children got down to lots of hard work in the classroom, enjoying thoughtful discussions about their Christmas break 🎄and sharing their favourite memories with one another. They used these conversations as a starting point for their literacy work, writing confidently and enthusiastically in their literacy books✍️📖. In numeracy, the children focused on learning about perimeter📏📘, developing their understanding of how to calculate it and working out missing lengths using the information given🤔.

Even though we couldn’t get out to the playground to play, we still had lots of fun during our extra PE sessions this week. The children enjoyed a variety of games 🏑🏸🥅⚽️designed to help improve their motor skills, brain reaction time 🧠and good team-playing skills👫.
